Skilled Nursing Care/Swing Bed

Bradley County Medical Center offers Skilled Nursing/Swing Bed care. Our Rehabilitation team is able to offer physical, occupational, and speech therapy while the patient recovers and gains strength from surgery or hospitalization.

What is the Swing Bed Program?

Medicare has established the Swing Bed program to help meet the needs of smaller communities. After a hospital stay related to surgery, illness, or injury some patients may need further care to reach an optimal level of strength before returning home or to another residential facility.

The duration of stay will be based on the individual needs of the patient. Medicare will cover up to 20 days at 100% if the patient meets the criteria and shows positive progress.

Patients are discharged from Swing Bed after: a physician has determined they have gained the maximum benefit of skilled nursing and rehabilitation, the patient's care has become custodial, the care requires long-term rehab, or there is a change in the patient's level of care.

Qualifications

The following requirements must be met by a patient to qualify for the Swing Bed program: covered by Medicare Part A, have had three overnights in an acute care bed prior, and have an ongoing diagnosis and needs that meet the required skilled care defined by Medicare. HMO's and private insurance do not require three overnights.

Insurance

Swing Bed Care is a Medicare benefit, worker's compensation (determined on a case-by-case basis), and most private/commercial insurance companies with prior authorization.

BCMC Alters Visitation Policy to Reflect No Patient Left Alone Act

Bradley County Medical Center has made updates to its visitation policy to reflect the No Patient Left Alone that was recently signed into law in Arkansas.

This act states that a patient be allowed one support person who is permitted to be physically present on a daily basis at reasonable times throughout his or her hospitalization. Therefore, each patient may have one support person with them during normal visiting hours. In accordance with this new law, BCMC will allow one support person per patient during normal visiting hours.

Bradley County Medical Center reserves the right to limit or place visitor restrictions in certain situations including, but not limited to, when the presence of visitors would be medically or therapeutically harmful; interfere with the care or rights of any patient; visitors are engaging in violent, disruptive, or threatening behavior; or visitors are noncompliant with BCMC policy.
